Perry Firefighters are looking for the community’s support as they raise money to educate children about fire prevention.
Firefighter and Iowa Fire Museum owner Brian Eiteman says they’ve been working with a Canadian company called Community Safety Net for the past several years to put together books for area kids. The company works on behalf of the fire department and museum to gather donations for the interactive booklets.
But fun and educational, Eiteman says the books are something children look forward to taking home.
“Open the case up and there’s a CD for kids to play games with on the computer, fire prevention games, there’s puzzles, there’s paper games in there, coloring book pages. There’s information that mom and dad have to go over with them and it tells them out to get out of their house properly and meet in a specific location. It makes the family kind of set that up in case there’s a fire in their house.”
Eiteman says businesses in Dallas County may receive a phone call in the coming weeks asking if they’d like to donate to the project. If you’d like to help and do not receive a call, you can contact him or fire department Chief Chris Hinds.
