Jefferson Police Officer Injured, Suspect in Custody While Executing a Search Warrant
A Jefferson man is in custody and an officer was injured while executing a search warrant on Wednesday.
Police Chief Mark Clouse says at 2:32pm, two officers and two Greene County deputies executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 300 block of North Wilson Avenue. Officers entered the apartment after no one answered the door. Police found six individuals inside and a male subject immediately ran into the bedroom and slammed the door shut.
Clouse says Sergeant Heath Enns had his firearm drawn, as per their procedure and officer safety, and tried to gain entry into the bedroom. The male allegedly began barricading the door, but Enns was able to jar it slightly open and saw a female inside the room and requested her to fully open the door. The male then hit Enns’s hand with the handle of a large Bowie knife to allegedly disarm the officer.
The male then tried to escape out of a window and officers were able to open the door and arrest him. Enns suffered minor injuries to his hand and no one else was injured in the incident. Police also recovered suspected narcotics from the apartment.
23 year-old Zakkariah Dylan-Levi Boudewyn was charged with four Class D felonies for assault on persons in certain occupations and/or use or display of a dangerous weapon, interference with official acts with a dangerous weapon, disarming a peace officer and assault on person in certain occupations and/or causing bodily injury. Boudewyn was booked and remains in the Greene County Jail under a $50,000 cash or surety bond.
Clouse adds that additional individuals are involved in the case with additional charges pending completion of the investigation.
Greene County Democratic Party Caucus Sites
The Greene County Democratic Party is gearing up for caucuses on February 1st.
Chair Dale Hanaman says there are five caucus sites for the Democratic Party for the seven precincts. Jefferson precincts one, two and three will be at the Greene County High School, while the central precinct will be at the Jefferson City Hall Council Chambers. The north precinct will be at the Churdan Community Center, the east precinct will be at St. Brigid Parish Center in Grand Junction and west precinct’s site is at the Scranton Community Center.
Registration will begin at 6:30pm and end right at 7pm. Hanaman points out that you must register as a Democrat to caucus for a Democrat candidate. In order for a candidate to be viable, there must be at least 15 percent of the total amount of attendees voting for a candidate.
“So if you have 100 people in attendance, you have to have 15 people in a group caucusing for one candidate. If you have less than that, then the chair of the meeting will invite those persons to find their second best choice.”
Once everyone is settled on their selections, delegates will then be determined to go to the county convention.
If you are affiliated with another political party but want to caucus for a Democrat candidate, Hanaman notes that you can register as a Democrat for caucus night and then change your party afterwards.
Greene County Chamber Annual Dinner Another Success
The Greene County Chamber Annual Dinner was held Monday night at the Jefferson Elks Lodge.
The highlight of the evening was the 2015 Above and Beyond the Call Award winner, which was Diane Blackmer. She volunteers with the Greene County Medical Center Auxiliary and is the site manager for the Action Resource Center. She told Raccoon Valley Radio how surprised she was to win the volunteerism award.
“I was overwhelmed. One of my friends told me that I was suppose to come and talk about the food pantry tonight, so I was prepared to do that, not to be recognized for it. It’s a huge honor, it really is.”
Blackmer added that it’s because of all the volunteers that she’s blessed to work with that makes everything she does to help out the community and make it a better place.
Other highlights of the evening include membership milestones recognizing 22 businesses for 495 years as Chamber members. The Chamber board officers will continue to serve in their same positions for 2016 with Omega Sang as president on a temporary basis, Tori Reilly as secretary and Nikki Uebel as treasurer.
The event ended with a special guest speaker, Scott Siepker, the Iowa Nice Guy talking about Iowa as an up and coming state on the national scale.

Needed Items for the Greene County Action Resource Center
The Greene County Action Resource Center is looking for additional items to be donated this winter season.
Site Manager Diane Blackmer says food items that they are in need of include spaghetti sauce, diced tomatoes, pre-packaged or boxed mixes for desserts. They also need several personal care items such as non-gender specific deodorant, shampoo and dish and laundry detergent. Other items include tissue and individually wrapped toilet paper.
The ARC served 208 individuals and 83 families in December. Blackmer would like to thank all organizations, businesses, including Raccoon Valley Radio, and other individuals that donated items over the holiday season. She adds that the community support was overwhelming.
The local food pantry is open every Wednesday and the third Saturday of every month starting at 9:30am. Those who would like to help volunteer or make a donation can call Blackmer at 515-370-0650.
