The Jayette basketball team was unable to overcome a slow start at Carlisle on Friday night, falling 58-43. Carlisle lead 12-0 in the first quarter, and cruised to a 30-18 halftime advantage despite all-state forward Agatha Beier being in foul trouble. Perry would close to within 47-36, but failed to cut the deficit to single digits.
Emma Olejniczak turned in a great night, leading all scorers with 15, while sophomore Grace Stewart chipped in 9 points. The wildcats had 3 players in double figures with Hailey Brunson, Agatha Beier, and Gabby Schnathorst scoring 14, 13, and 12 respectively. The Jayettes fall to 7-8 (3-5) on the year.
In the nightcap, the Perry boys survived a furious second half rally from Carlisle to claim a 72-69 victory. The Bluejay offense was hitting on all cylinders in the first half, leading 43-24 at intermission. Carlisle, however, outscored the visitors 23-9 in the third quarter to pull within five. With the game tied at 60 late in the fourth quarter, Perry was able to come up with defensive stops and make enough free throws to escape with a win.
Shammond Ivory eclipsed the 1,500 point mark for his career behind a game-high 33 points. Carlisle was fueled in the second half by 17 points from Max Evans, who finished with 22 for the game,
The Bluejays improve their mark to 8-6 (5-3), they’ll host Ballard in a pivotal Raccoon River Conference match-up on Tuesday night.
