Senator Jerry BehnLast week, Governor Terry Branstad urged Iowa voters to not vote for Ted Cruz following the renewable fuels conference in Des Moines.

Part of Branstad’s comments were that the Republican presidential candidate wasn’t in favor of renewable fuels, like ethanol. District 24 State Senator Jerry Behn of Boone endorsed Cruz earlier this month and says he didn’t think it was a good idea for Branstad to make those remarks.

“In the Republican primary, I like to refer to it as one big, happy family, similar to the Democratic (Party). You don’t like to see part of your own family criticizing your own family.”

Behn explains that Cruz’s position isn’t that he is against ethanol, Cruz believes that the Environmental Protection Agency shouldn’t set limitations on ethanol production.

“I tend to agree with Senator Cruz, that if you take away the top end (limitations) that is probably just as beneficial and perhaps more beneficial than a mandated bottom end right now.”

By setting those limitations, Behn says the ethanol industry can not grow. Behn will tell us more on today’s Let’s Talk Greene County program, which airs during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on 98.9FM KGRA.
