Greene County ExtensionGreene County Iowa State University Extension office is offering a certification class next week for those in the foodservice industry.

Extension Director Lori Mannel says the ServSafe Food Safety Training will help individuals get their necessary certification to handle food through the Iowa Restaurant Association.

“We had a couple of different restaurants approach us and we’re very excited that right here in Greene County, we’re able to provide this service to those food professionals that are in the foodservice. If you’re a manager or a worker and who work with food.”

Topics to be covered in the one-day course include providing safe food; contamination and food allergies; the flow of food in terms of purchasing, receiving and storage; cleaning and sanitizing; pest management; reviewing facilities and equipment and information on food safety management systems. The class will be taught by ISU Extension Nutrition and Wellness Specialist Katie Knobbe.

It will be from 8:30am to 5:30pm on Monday, February 1st at the Extension office in Jefferson. The cost is $150 per person. Call 386-2138 to sign up.
