Gilbert won both ends of a girl/boy basketball doubleheader Friday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson. The Tigers were 48-25 girls’ winners, then won 56-42 in the boys’ game. The contest was the last at home this season for the girls from Greene County, while the boys have one home date left on Feb. 12 vs. PCM (Monroe). Next up are four road girl/boy doubleheaders with a trip to Alleman to face North Polk on the schedule for Feb. 2 on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com, weather permitting.

Friday night’s games were both heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Gilbert girls led throughout and improved to 12-6 overall and 12-2 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The Rams fell to 3-14 and 3-10 in the league. Sarah Hinners had 13 points for the Tigers while Nicole Rohner and Hannah Promes each scored six for Greene County. The Tigers led 16-5 at the half, then put the game away with a 28 point third quarter.

On the boys’ side, the Rams went 7 of 15 from the floor in the opening quarter and 17 points in the frame. After that, it was cold shooting resulting in only seven more field goals the last three periods, and only 25 more points. Tyler Beger had 13 points to lead the Rams. Adam Baker had 17 and Ryan Blum 15 for the Tigers, the Heart of Iowa leaders at 11-2. The Rams fell to 5-7 in the conference and 6-10 overall.
