jake chapmanLegislation to legalize fireworks in Iowa continues to stay alive at the capitol and Senator Jake Chapman of Adel, who has been championing the cause since being elected, says this may be the year the bill is passed.

He says the bill has been passed out of the Senate’s state government subcommittee and is now eligible for the committee vote.

“The sense that I get up here is that there is a lot of movement to just get this thing pushed forward.  So I’m optimistic that this will be the year that we legalize fireworks and I think we’ve got a real shot.”

But we’ve heard this before and so far, over the past few years efforts to make fireworks legal in the state have failed.  So we asked Senator Chapman while he feels 2016 may be a different story.

“I think there’s a growing number of Iowans that support (the legalization), that have vocalized their support.  You know, sometimes bills take a few years to get passed and I think this is one of them that we’ve gotten it further every single year I’ve been here and now we’re at that stage where we just need to get it up over that hump.”

Chapman will share more on the issue and others facing state lawmakers on tomorrow’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours.
