While it wasn’t like winning the over $1 billion Powerball jackpot, a Jefferson resident did recently win $250,000 playing the Iowa Lottery.

Shirley Drayer won the prize money from playing the $250,000 Club instant-scratch game in the 2015 calendar year. She purchased the ticket from a Casey’s General Store in Jefferson.

During the 2015 fiscal year, a total of $196.9 million in prizes were won by Iowa Lottery players. However, more than $1.3 million in prizes that were unclaimed expired.

Prize money left unclaimed after redemption deadlines goes into the lottery’s prize pools for future games and promotions, so it will be used to pay prizes, just not those particular prizes that have expired. On the lottery’s website at ialottery.com, there is a current list of unclaimed lotto prizes of $10,000 or more.
