The Greene County boys and North Polk girls were Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball winners in make up action Thursday night in Alleman on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Coach Jeramie’s Hinote’s boys’ squad led 20-13 late in the first quarter, before NP rallied to take a 33-32 halftime lead. The Comets increased their advantage to 49-39 late in the third quarter, but Greene County ended the game on a 24-5 run for a 63-54 victory, their fourth straight on the road. The Rams are 2-7 in Jefferson, but improved to 5-3 away from home, for a 7-10 overall mark. Greene County is 6-7 in HOIAC action. Junior Trey Tucker scored 21 points and freshman Trey Hinote scored a career best 18. The Rams made eight goals from three-point range; four by Hinote, three from Tucker, and one for Tyler Beger. Senior Grant Rampton had 23 points for the Comets, who fell to 10-7 overall and 9-5 in the conference. NP went one for nine on three-point shots. The two teams split their two-game season series.

NP dominated the girls’ game, winning 51-18. The Comets led 30-10 at intermission, and did not play any starters in the last quarter. NP is now 12-6 overall and 11-4 in the HOIAC, while the Rams fell to 3-15 on the season and 3-11 in conference games. Juniors Riley Murphy and Rachel Scott led NP with 15 and 10 points, respectively. The Rams had six players score and were led by senior Nicole Rohner with four points. The Comets swept the two-game season series with the Rams.

The Rams return to Polk County tonight for a girl/boy doubleheader in Des Moines vs. Saydel. Coverage on KG98 begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6, and the boys to follow.
