The Greene County High School wrestling team, and the students from Greene County HS that swim for Boone under an athletic sharing agreement will enter the 2016 postseason tomorrow.
Coach Mark Sawhill’s wrestlers take part in a Class 2A Sectional Tournament at 12 p.m. on Saturday at Perry High School. The Blue Jays and Rams will be joined by Gilbert, Kuemper Catholic (Carroll), Southeast Valley (Gowrie), and Woodward-Granger. The first and second place individuals in each of the 14 weight classes move on to the Webster City district tournament on Feb. 13. The first and second place teams at Perry advance to dual meet regional competition on Feb. 9 at a site to be determined. Senior Tommy Bradshaw leads the Rams with a 35-0 record at 152 lbs. and he’s ranked second at that weight in 2A. Junior Isaiah Yoder (160), sophomore Kane Borgeson (113), and senior Mark Kendall (170) also have winning records, while junior Hunter Ruth (195) qualified for the 2015 state tournament. Sophomores Cadyn Gerdes (132) and Isaac Ireland (138) are expected to round out the seven person Greene County contingent.
A handful of Greene County students swim for Boone and the Toreadors will be at Ft. Dodge for a district meet tomorrow, which determines qualifiers for the Feb. 13 State Swim Meet. Greene County junior Nick Schroeder is ranked seventh in the state and first in the district in the 50 yard freestyle, and he’s ninth in the state rankings and first in the district in the 100 freestyle.
