The Perry boys got back on the winning track Friday night as they completed the season sweep of the Winterset Huskies by the final score of 70-62.
It was a slow start for the Bluejays, which is what you’d expect from a team that competed in a tough road environment just 24 hours prior. Winterset went to the break with a slight advantage at 28-27, but the Bluejays put up 30 points in the 3rd quarter behind 5 3-pointers from Ryan Rathje to push their lead to 14. The senior finished with a game-high 23 points, while Shammond Ivory chipped in 19.
Perry improves its mark to 10-8 (7-5) on the year, while Winterset drops to 6-11 (5-7).
The Jayettes’ struggles continued against Winterset, losing to the Huskies by the final of 60-47. Perry once again couldn’t find a rhythm offensively, scoring just 18 points midway through the 3rd quarter. The Jayettes were able to cut the lead to 7 in the 4th, but Winterset converted on 20-22 free throws to help put the game on ice.
Grace Marburger led all scorers with 15 points, while Macy Johnson and Molly Eyerly scored 14 points apiece. The Jayettes fall to 8-11 (4-8), they’ll travel to Bondurant on Tuesday for another boy/girl double-header.
