Perry, Greene County, and Woodward-Granger all have qualified wrestlers for the Feb. 18-20 state meet at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines from the Webster City district on Saturday.

The most stunning development of the afternoon involved Greene County sophomore Kane Borgeson at 113 lbs. He was injured in the third period of the second place wrestle back match due to an illegal  hold from number one rated Drake Doolittle of Webster City. Borgeson trailed 15-2 with 1:28 remaining in the third period when what’s referred to as a slam injured the Ram and he was unable to continue; thus the victory by injury disqualification and a second place finish in the district as well as state meet qualification. Borgeson was taken to a medical facility on a stretcher.

Perry had three district champions and two second place finishers, while Greene County had one of each, and W-G had a pair of runners-up. Qualifying for the Blue Jays were champions Kaleb Olejniczak (106), Gisaveri Niyibizi (126), and Kade Van Kirk (132). Zach Thompson (120) and Eli Saemisch (170) were Perry’s second place finishers. Race Brant (152) and Tanner Vermass (182) were both second from W-G. Tommy Bradshaw (152) was Greene County’s champion and Borgeson (113) was second.
