All Greene County seventh and eighth graders and their parents or guardians are invited to a new event next month.

The “Silence Hides Violence” event will have different stations that participants can learn more about difficult topics such as bullying, dating abuse, cyber safety, harassment, peer pressure, reproductive and sexual health and substance abuse. Youth Sexual Abuse Advocate Brittany Lenaghan explains the importance of the event for the younger teenagers.

“It’s important to bring these topics forward so then seventh and eighth graders can talk about these difficult situations and issues happening. Then they are able to go to someone that they trust, such as their parent, and have that open communication with them and they won’t be scared and they can have someone basically to talk to about it.”

It will be on Friday, March 4th between the Webb House and the First United Methodist Church from 6 to 8pm. No pre-registration is necessary for the free event.
