According to Iowa law, unlike law enforcement, Department of Natural Resources officers are allowed to go onto private property without a warrant.
District 10 State Senator Jake Chapman is working to put a stop to that.
“This is to reign in a little of that authority and really force them to establish probable cause, force them to go through the warrant process and certainly, most importantly in that bill, is the requirement to have a warrant to seize property. Right now they’re able to seize property without any kind of warrant and that’s of straight concern to me. Really it gets back to what are the constitutional rights of Iowans and what are your private property rights. Really, the bill gets to the core of that discussion.”
Chapman introduced the bill Tuesday and has since put out a petition asking Iowans for their support on the issue. You can see it HERE.
