West Central Valley sophomore Tye Joint will compete in the Class 1A individual state wrestling tournament beginning tomorrow at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Joint is the first wrestling state qualifier for West Central Valley since 2013. The individual that qualified that year was Joint’s older brother, Ryan, says West Central Valley Activities Director Tod Broman. “Ryan was a four-time state qualifier for West Central Valley. He was finally able to place his senior year. That was the last time we had a qualifier, it has been kind of spotty in the years leading up to this.” The elder Joint continues his wrestling career as a 149 pounder on the Simpson College wrestling team in Indianola.

Tye Joint will begin his own state legacy on Thursday, when he does battle with junior Jack Kyle of Missouri Valley. You can listen to Joint’s match and the matches of all other area competing athletes live on the Raccoon Valley Radio Network and streaming at www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
