It’s day one of the Iowa High School State wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations and www.raccoonvalleyrado.com are covering the matches of nearly 30 area wrestlers on a “live” play-by-ply basis. In addition, updates below will be listed throughout the tournament. Class 1A wrestlers take the mats first with first round matches followed by the first consolation round. A win the opening round puts a wrestler into Friday morning’s quarterfinals, while a first round loss meant a match in the first consolation round Thursday morning. Two losses today means a wrestlers is eliminated from further competition. There are 16 wrestlers in each weight class and the top eight are place winners and medalists.
