Greene County High School students that were involved in swimming, wrestling, girls and boys basketball, have concluded those seasons and the attention now turns to Spring sports. The Rams offer golf for girls and boys, as well as girls and boys track & field. There are sharing programs in place for girls from here to play soccer in Carroll and for boys to play soccer in Boone.
Dean Lansman is the Activities Director and head boys’ track and field coach for the Rams. He told Raccoon Valley Radio that athletes not involved in a Winter sport reported for practice on Feb. 15. Since then, athletes from the various Winter sports have been trickling in, and he expects full squad practices beginning Feb. 29. “We’ll start working toward our first outdoor meet on March 28,” he said. The first outdoor action on the Rams’ schedule is the Greene County Early Bird Meet at Linduska Field in Jefferson. Like many track & field meets, especially early in the season, the meet is dependent on the weather.
In addition to Lansman as the boys’ head coach, Kelly Simpson is back as girls’ head coach. Dean Lyons is the assistant to both and Pat Gearhart is a volunteer coach.
