Greene County High School boys’ basketball head coach Jeramie Hinote looked back on the recently completed 2015-16 season with Raccoon Valley Radio. The coach was proud of the effort his players gave in turning a 2-8 first half of the regular season into a 10-11 final record. Beyond the wins and losses though, the coach said he was most pleased with how the players improved as people and grew as young men. “It was fun just to watch the kids grow up. One thing I figured out over this last year was I can go get wins and I can go get losses each year, but trying to get the kids to understand what life’s about is a lot more important.”
The coach said he saw personal growth in the players by how they reacted in the huddle and to situations on the court. “From the start to the end we went on quite a journey in terms of growing up as men. When you saw the kids early in the year you saw a lot of finger pointing in and out of huddles, and a lot of times there was bickering coming out of huddles when things started to get down. I really pushed becoming better people and handling adversity. If you flip it toward the end of the year you saw kids really try to keep each other upbeat inside those huddles instead of yelling at each other, and that’s what was more rewarding to me. Sure, the wins were great, but I think the wins came because the kids became better people.”
The Rams graduate six seniors, but others return with varsity experience.
