Greene Co. 4-HEach year, Greene County 4-H’ers are required to pass a Food Safety and Quality Assurance program to show livestock or animals at the county or state fairs.

There are some FSQA test and training dates coming up for local 4-H’ers to be aware of. The test dates are on Friday, March 4th and Tuesday, April 19th from 3 to 5pm. The training dates are Thursday, March 3rd from 6 to 7:30pm and Saturday, April 16th from 9 to 10:30am at the Greene County Extension office in Jefferson. Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Kayla Hyatt says while junior 4-H’ers are required to recertify through training, intermediate and senior 4-H’ers can either go through the training or take the test.

“It is their choice. The testing is, I would say faster, so it doesn’t take as much time out of their day. But they are more than welcome for intermediates and seniors to come to the training if they would rather do that than take the test. Our intermediate test are 20 questions and the senior test is 30 and they get three chances per sitting to pass the test.”

Call the Extension office to sign up for either the test of training for FSQA at 386-2138.
