The West Central Valley Community School District has hired somebody to replace retiring high school principal Debbie Wilson.
Rusty Shockley is the current principal at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn (HMS) High School in northwest Iowa and was one of approximately 40 applicants for the position.
Superintendent Dr David Arnold says the community was involved in deciding Shockley was the right person for the job. “The way he held himself, his confidence and abilities were all impressive. During the background checks, we found out he is what he says he is. He is an excellent leader, he builds a positive school culture and focuses on the needs of the kids. All of those things came across strong throughout the interview process. I’ll add that the School Board, teachers, parents and students were all involved in this hiring process.”
The district is in the early stages of scheduling times during the spring or summer where the community can meet Shockley. He and his wife are in the area today looking for their future home.
