Guthrie Center Elementary School has partnered with the Iowa Wild semi-professional hockey team in Des Moines to teach the sport to area youth.
The team recently donated 12 hockey sticks, pucks and shirts to Lori McGivney’s physical education class to learn the sport of hockey.
At the end of the unit, students will be awarded a certificate of completion from the Iowa Wild and given a voucher for free tickets to a home game at Wells Fargo Arena.
Plus, the school will be participating in the team’s ‘Wild About Reading’ program that promotes literacy among elementary and middle school students. Students can also earn tickets to hockey games by meeting reading goals set by their teachers.
