With high temperatures topping 70 degrees Monday the high school track and field squads from Greene County High School were able to get on the Linduska Field track and practice. Highs in the 20’s and 30’s kept the athletes mainly indoors a week ago, but Monday was a different story.

Junior Nick Schroeder talked about getting outside. “We just got outside the last couple of days and that feels a lot better on my shins, and everybody’s shins. My legs are less sore.” Schroeder was on the Boone High School soccer team the last two years, but chose to stay in Jefferson and run track. He said he’s mainly expecting to run 200 and 400 meter races, but he may go up to the 800 at times. He mentioned the transition between running for soccer and running track and field. “Soccer’s a lot more distance and long, long runs just to get in shape, but track is a lot of fast-twitch muscles for the 100, 200, 400.” He’s expecting some strong relays including the 4 x 400, 4 x 200, and 1, 600 meter medley relay.”

The Rams begin the outdoor season on Monday, March 28 at Linduska Field in Jefferson for the Greene County Early Bird Meet.
