Tesa Binns

A Jefferson woman faces several charges following a traffic stop Thursday morning.

Police Chief Mark Clouse says an officer stopped a vehicle for a broken tail light at 3:51am in the 100 block of South Pinet Street. The male driver was cooperative with the officer, but a female passenger allegedly got out of the vehicle and attempted to leave. Clouse notes that for officer safety reasons, they don’t let individuals leave the scene of a traffic stop. The officer was going to arrest her for interference with official acts and gave several opportunities for the female to return to the vehicle, but she was not compliant and a struggle ensued as she was being handcuffed on the ground.

Once she was in custody and was being transported to the law enforcement center, the female caused damage to the patrol vehicle’s back door. When she arrived at the LEC, Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert says she was put in a booking room, where she caused about $2,000 in damages to the walls and ripping down shelves. It was only when they warned her that they would use a taser that she went peacefully into the holding cell.

19 year-old Tesa Renee Binns faces charges from the police department for a Class D Felony for second degree criminal mischief, three aggravated misdemeanors for assault on a person in a certain occupation-causing bodily injury, an aggravated misdemeanor for interference with official acts-causing bodily injury and simple misdemeanors for possession of alcohol under 21, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

She was booked and remains in the Greene County Jail under a $50,000 cash or surety bond.
