Students in the Perry School District will be able to learn more about a musical genre they likely are not often exposed to this week.
Perry Fine Arts is bringing the Des Moines Metro Opera’s, Opera Iowa to town Friday. Before a public concert in the evening the group will be working with kids.
“They’re going to do workshops with the elementary kids and then they’re going to do a show with kids from second grade through sixth grade and the middle school choirs will be singing Billy Goats Gruff. It’s the story of the billy goats gruff and going across the bridge and everything but it also has an element of how to combat bulling and that’s an extremely important thing that’s going on nowadays.”
That’s committee member Cathy Clark who says they’re excited to bring this opportunity to the Perry students.
“I think it will be a great great show for the kids and maybe teach the kids that they don’t have to be intimidated by opera. So, we’re looking forward to that.”
The public will have a chance to watch the group perform Cinderella Friday at 7pm at the Perry Performing Arts Center. The cost is a free will donation.
