Freedom for Youth Ministiries, based in Des Moines, partners with local churches in several communities around the state to offer wholesome places for kids to go after school. The Stuart location partners with All Saints Catholic Church and Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.

Organizer Bethany Daly says they offer programs for a wide variety of ages. “We serve kindergarten-fifth grades on Tuesdays from 3:30-5:00 p.m. and then we have middle schoolers on Thursday from 4:00-6:00 p.m.”

Daly adds that kids are provided food at the beginning of each meeting. They then can either join in on fun activities or do homework. “We start with a healthy snack for them right after school, then we usually do a themed program. For example, in February our theme scripture was John 3:16 and we teach them what the scripture means and do activities along that theme.”20160224_113310_327

Freedom for Youth’s Stuart location at 120 North Second Street also features an air hockey table, foosball table and a big screen television.

Daly will tell us more about the organization today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.20160224_113256_358
