Friday, March 11th

A deputy was dispatched to the 2100 block of P Avenue to check a reported suspicious vehicle. The truck and driver were located and the identity of the driver was determined.

A deputy was dispatched to Scranton to investigate a reported assault.

A deputy was asked to check the welfare of a male subject in the 2400 block of 337th Street. The male subject was found to be safe at that time.

A deputy assisted an Iowa State Patrol Officer with an accident two miles west of Churdan on 240th Street. A trailer hauling a backhoe became unhitched from a truck and entered the ditch.

A deputy was asked to check the welfare of a male subject in the 500 block of 12 Street South in Grand Junction.

A deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of Main Street East in Grand Junction to investigate a reported burglary to a building. At this time it is unknown if anything was taken.

The Paton Fire was dispatched for a farm field fire in the 1700 block of 130th Street. It was later reported by the Paton Fire Units to be a controlled burn.

Saturday, March 12th

A deputy checked the report of vandalism at the Scranton City Park next to city hall. Graffiti was found written on the roof of the slide.

A deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of 150th Street to talk with the resident about a harassment concern.

Union Pacific Railroad Dispatchers asked a deputy to check for a described vehicle that had had driven around the activated crossing gates in Scranton and was nearly struck by the advancing train. The vehicle was not located at that time.

A deputy was dispatched for a vehicle that was driving erratic and carelessly on Highway 30 near Jefferson. The deputy located the vehicle as it entered the Wild Rose Casino parking lot. The driver, Atem Akuei Malual 33, of Denison, was evaluated and subsequently arrested for OWI 1st Offense.

Sunday, March 13th

A deputy was asked to contact a Scranton resident about an earlier reported assault.

A deputy was dispatched to remove a deer carcass from the center of the roadway on Highway 4 north of Jefferson.

A deputy was advised of an erratic and careless semi driving westbound on Highway 30 near Jefferson. The truck was located and stopped by the deputy west of Jefferson. The driver was evaluated and then allowed to continue.

A deputy was advised of an injured bald eagle east of Jefferson in the 1100 block of 220th Street, along Highway 30. Several agencies were contacted and were on their way to the location when the eagle, after resting for a time, took flight before their arrival.

A deputy was advised of several youth operating 4-wheel ATV’s in the city limits of Paton.

A deputy responded to a car-deer accident on 170th Street near P Avenue. A 2013 Chevrolet Camaro being driven by Rick Dean Smith 37, of rural Grand Junction was eastbound on 170th street when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck by the Smith vehicle. Rick Smith was not injured but his car sustained an estimated $10,500 in damages.

In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
