IHSSA LogoFour Greene County students will head to Cedar Falls next month for the All-State Individual Speech Festival.

Three students from Greene County High School were selected to perform at the festival. Senior David Petersen in musical theater, junior Michael Kennedy in prose and sophomore Reagan Lamoureux for expository address. Paton-Churdan’s Autumn Gannon will perform her original poetry at all-state. To make it to all-state, a student not only had to receive straight I-ratings from their three judges, but also be named outstanding performer of the day.

Greene County Head Speech Coach Kelley Gray is proud of her three students that advanced to all-state in her first year as head coach.

“It’s really exciting that they put in a lot of hard work and we put in a lot of time and obviously that’s coupled with a lot of talent on their end. So it’s fun to see them rewarded and especially that we can all go and enjoy all-state which is a huge honor altogether.”

Other students performing at Saturday’s state contest include, from Greene County High School, Aly Matthews who received straight I-ratings for her poetry and from Paton-Churdan, Megan Carey also received straight I-ratings for her prose. Those receiving an overall II-rating from state include Jordan Davis and Victoria Sims from Greene County.

The all-state festival will take place on April 4th at the University of Northern Iowa.
