More Candidates File Papers for County, State and National Office
Candidates who want their name on the ballot for this June’s primary election for state or national office are out of time to file papers, while potential county candidates still have a week left.
According to Dallas County Auditor Gene Krumm, Robert Hogg and Thomas Fiegen will face each other for the Democratic nomination to try and unseat incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Charles Grassley.
Joe Grandanette will challenge incumbent David Young in June and Desmond Adams and Jim Mowrer are both hoping for the Democratic nomination for the District 3 State Representative seat.
Current District 10 State Senator Jake Chapman will not have a primary challenger but Matt Paladino has filed paperwork for the Democratic side.
Democratic candidate Bryce Smith is hoping to unseat incumbent Republican District 19 State Representative Ralph Watts in November.
Scott Heldt is the lone Democratic candidate in the District 20 State Representative race and incumbent Republican Clel Baudler has also filed his paperwork.
Current Board of Supervisors Chairman Mark Hanson is being challenged for the Republican nomination for the District 2 seat by Eric Rose. Cate Bryan and Julia Helm have both submitted their papers for the Republican nomination for County Auditor and Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard is the only candidate who has submitted his paperwork thus far.
The primary election will take place June 7th.
Severe Weather Awareness Week – Severe Thunderstorms
Monday kicks off Severe Weather Awareness Week and the Raccoon Valley Radio news team will be bringing you a variety of information about storms in Iowa and how our Severe Weather Awareness Team works to help keep you safe when things get ugly.
Monday’s focus is severe thunderstorms and the threats they pose.
Dallas County Emergency Management Coordinator Barry Halling says
“A line of severe thunderstorms an produce winds will do as much, or sometimes maybe more damage, than a tornado actually will. Sometimes you get a line of wind that could be anywhere from a mile to five miles wide, or even wider, and those can do significant damage to trees, power lines, sheds if the doors are open on the wrong side or roofs, those kinds of things.”
A severe thunderstorm is defined as a storm that contains hail that is one inch in diameter or larger, straight line winds 58 miles per hour or stronger and/or a tornado.
Anytime there is a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning in Dallas, Greene or Guthrie county the Raccoon Valley Radio network’s Severe Weather Action Team breaks into regular programming to provide you with live, wall-to-wall coverage of the storm until it exits the area or drops below severe levels. We are in contact with meteorologists with the National Weather Service and WeatherEye, local authorities and storm spotters in the field to bring you all of the up to the minute information.
