The Board heard an update from Activities Director Shane Arp on the recommendation by students of a name, mascot, song and colors for activities representing the shared district of Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center, beginning in July. A poll in both districts shows A-C/G-C to be by far the most popular choice of name, with Chargers and Eagles being the two most popular mascots. The color combination of black and gold, currently used by both districts is most popular as well. A joint student committee from both districts will make a final recommendation to both school boards at a meeting next week.

Plus, Superintendent Steve Smith announced that English teacher Karla Mahaffey has accepted a position to become the Curriculum Director for Guthrie Center and Adair-Casey schools, beginning next school year.

Additionally, the Board unanimously approved the annual senior trip to Kansas City , which will take place from April 29th-30th. The students are selling Casey’s General Store pizza and donut discount cards to help fund their trip.

Finally,  Smith reported that selection for the first shared activity between Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center, cheerleading, was already underway. Smith expressed a desire for middle and high school activities to have adult representation or coaches from both the Guthrie Center and Adair-Casey communities whenever possible.
