The Iowa State Senate passed a bill last week that will help to lessen the noise that a firearm makes.
District 24 Senator Jerry Behn says the suppressor bill allows for Iowans to purchase and own firearm suppressors, which are much different than Hollywood’s version of a “silencer”.
“In reality, I’ve seen these things in operation and they’re still fairly loud. Now, they do cut down on the noise, I think they claim somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-25 percent range, but that means the noise is still 75 percent as much as it was.”
Behn voted in favor of the bill, which passed 46-4 in the Senate. The bill originated in the House and he notes that there were some word changes to it and it will be sent back over to the House for consideration. He believes the House will pass the bill again and it will be sent to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.
