Jefferson Police Department has filed charges against a married couple for burglary and drugs.

Police Chief Mark Clouse says warrants were issued against 45 year-old Stephanie Arvella Goff and 42 year-old John Matthew Goff, both of Jefferson, after investigations into two burglary cases. The first alleged incident was reported to police on February 13th in the 300 block of North Cedar Street. Clouse says the caretaker of the vacant home reported that the residence had been broken into. Police put up cameras and saw pictures of the Goffs entering and exiting the home. It was determined that there was probable cause to charge the couple. However, Clouse adds that they are waiting until the owners return to determine if anything was stolen. The second investigation started on February 19th in the 200 block of North Cedar Street. The owners of the vacant home reported a broken window and a missing flat screen television.

A search warrant was then executed on Stephanie, due to a probation violation from Dallas County, at their home in the 400 block of State Street on February 27th. Clouse says the suspects weren’t home, but officers found the alleged stolen television along with drug-related items in plain sight. Officers had to apply for a second search warrant to recover the suspected narcotics.

Stephanie was then arrested at 12:34am Wednesday at her home, while her husband remains at large. She was later released from the Greene County Jail on her own recognizance.

Charges the Goff’s each face are two counts Class D Felonies for third degree burglary, Class D Felony for third or subsequent offense for possession of meth, aggravated misdemeanor for third or subsequent offense for possession of marijuana and aggravated misdemeanor for third degree theft.
