Candidates had until last Friday to file papers for the available state representative and senate seats in Iowa.

According to the Secretary of State’s office, in Senate District 24, which consists of Boone, Greene, Hamilton counties and parts of Story and Webster counties, Republican incumbent Jerry Behn of Boone is seeking his fifth term in the Senate. Democratic candidate Keith Puntenney also of Boone, is running against Behn. Both are running unopposed.

As for Representative District 47, which consists of Boone and Greene counties, we’ve previously reported that Republican incumbent Chip Baltimore of Boone is running for his third term in the House. While Baltimore is running unopposed as a Republican, there is a contested race for the Democratic candidacy. George Ensley and Deb Duncan, both of Boone, filed their papers last week to run for the seat.

The primary election will be on June 7th.
