STUART SIGNAs we’ve reported, a recent grant from Empowering Adair County has allowed the Stuart Public Library to digitize newspaper articles from the 19th and early 20th century.

Library Director Sandy Pollard says the database can be easily searched for whatever you’re looking for. “What is wonderful about the digitization process is that it is indexed. You can look things up by year, name, event or anything else.”

Pollard says their goal is to raise funds and digitize an even larger number of newspapers. “The total project cost is $8,000 and so far we’ve had $2,500 invested. We are asking for donations and we’ve written another grant to the Guthrie County Community Foundation and we hope to get more money to digitize newspapers.”

Pollard will tell us more about the project today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
