Gun suppressors are expected to soon be permitted in Iowa after a bill passed through both the House and Senate.  But these are not the kinds of things you see in the movies.

Senator Jake Chapman says there are often misconceptions about what a firearm suppressors are.

“We’re not talking about silencers here.  We’re not talking about where people are going to be putting these on guns and going around killing people, that’s not what we’re talking about.  With suppressors there’s obviously still a noise, you’re still going to hear that gun going off but it reduces that sound level as well as the recoil on that gun.  So that was a big progress that was made for the gun rights folks.”

Chapman adds that there are still federal laws that are in place that deal with suppressors so Iowans still need to abide by those rules as well.
