All fifth and sixth graders interested in babysitting are encouraged to attend Greene County Extension’s Babysitting Basics program.

Director Lori Mannel says the program will be split up into two Saturdays on April 2nd and 9th at the Presbyterian Church in Jefferson from 8:30am to noon with participants required to attend both meetings. Topics that will be covered include the responsibilities for a babysitter, expectations from employers, entertaining different ages of kids, handling emergencies and first aid along with preparing healthy snacks. Mannel adds that this program is always supported by community entities.

“We have our 4-H and Youth Coordinator and our Families Coordinator partner together to hold this event. We bring in fire safety (with the fire department), we bring in the police force. It’s really a community-wide event (and) we feel we do a quality event every year and because of that, it’s been going on for 20-plus years.”

The cost to attend is $25 by the end of the day today otherwise, it will be $35.
