The ADM/Van Meter girls soccer team will officially start their 2016 campaign tonight as they travel to Carroll to take on the Carroll high school Tigers.
The ADM/Van Meter soccer squad went 13-5 on the season last year and are ready to take the next step towards a state tournament run which will start tonight at the Carroll middle school. This will be the first competitive action of the season for ADM/Van Meter after their scheduled scrimmage against North Polk was cancelled on Tuesday giving tonight’s game an extra exciting flair.
The chance for the ADM/Van Meter soccer team to not only start their season off with a win but a win against a conference opponent gives an extra amount of excitement for girls varsity head coach Kelsey Gaffney who spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio about her excitement for the opening game.
“The first game of the season is always exciting. We’ve been working hard over the winter and the last couple weeks. It’s exciting to start with a conference game. They (Carroll) have a very good keeper and always hard to kick goals around so I’m excited to face her again this year,” explained coach Gaffney.
While ADM/Van Meter will go up against a good defensive team, they will have the luxury of not having to face one of the best goal keepers in all of Iowa last year, Lauryn Feauto who led every class in saves with 338 on the season.
The match tonight between ADM/Van Meter and Carroll is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
