The deadline to register boats for the next three years is fast approaching.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is expecting about 235,000 boats to be registered this year. The fees support water trails, navigation enforcement, invasive aquatic species, boater education and safety and the registration system. Boating registrations need to be handled by your respective county recorder’s office.

Greene County Recorder Marcia Tasler says all previously registered boat owners in the county have been notified to re-register. If you have moved and didn’t receive a notification, Tasler requests that you contact her office for future notices. If you recently purchased a boat privately, you must bring proof of title, registration and bill of sale to register your boat. If you don’t register your boat by May 1st, there will be a $5 penalty. Registrations are good for the next three years.

Anyone with questions can call the Greene County Recorder’s office at 386-5670.
