morelPeople all around the state have begun searching in forests for the delicious and elusive Morel mushroom.

Plant pathologist Dr. Mark Gleason says the damp forests of Guthrie County are good places to find Morels, particularly near dead or dying Elm trees. He adds that there is some expertise in finding Morels. “There are some risks associated with confusing Morels with other mushrooms. It is worthwhile to be careful, there are some significant health issues from eating false Morels.”

As we head into the warmer temperatures of spring and early summer, Morels will become more plentiful and easier to find.
