Sophomore Rachel Danielson has gone where no Greene County High School female golfer has gone before; a nine hole round of 41. Danielson and her teammates defeated Ballard on Tuesday of this week on the Huxley Country Club course, a place where she had never before played. The score is the lowest in the four years of girls’ golf as Greene County HS, and is one of the lowest for nine holes in the history of the Jefferson-based program, which dates back more than 50 years.
She talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the round and said, “I was pretty nervous about the first hole but then I started putting shots together and then I got really confident with my swing, and toward the end I just closed it out.” There were a couple of big shots that helped her score low. “On the first hole I put it within about six inches of putting it in the hole, then made that short putt for a par. Then I dropped a 20 footer down the hill on the eighth hole, which I was pretty happy about, and that was a birdie.”
Her goals include qualifying for the State Tournament in Class 4A, and shooting 45 or lower every round.
Danielson and the Rams are off until Monday, April 18 when they play in Ft. Dodge vs. St. Edmond.
