The Perry boy’s track team was not at full strength last night and it showed as Perry placed 6th out of 7 teams at the Mustang Invite. Dallas Center Grimes won the event with 146, followed by Urbandale’s 116. Perry checked in with 32 points.
Perry earned a first place performance in the 4×400. Jose Castellanos, Alexis Garrido, Rashon Ivory and Adan Medina clocked in at 3:37.97. Shammond Ivory earned first place in the long jump with a leap of 18-7. The 4×100 relay took 5th with Mana Martinez, Shammond Ivory, Janier Puente and Donald Chavez finishing in 49.03. The distance medley was missing its usual starters but still placed 4th. Chavez, Nic Fellom, Kaleb Olejniczak and Dane McCarty clocked in at 4:13.11.
Perry Head Coach Ben Coy felt this meet really wasn’t an accurate measuring stick to the high volume of runners who were absent.
“A lot of runners were absent today for various reasons. We will have a week off before conference which I think will be physically and mentally good for us.”
Perry will try to heal this week as they get set for the RRC meet next week.
