It may have been a dreary, damp, and shortened weekend tournament in Pella on Saturday, but the ADM boys soccer team came out strong just the same.
The Tigers showed their resilience as a team after their loss to DC-G to storm back and not just win their Thursday match up at Newton, but to add two more wins in Pella on Saturday against Clear Creek-Amana and Pella high school.
The class 2A 6th ranked ADM Tigers found themselves down early to the Pella Dutch in the first match but ended up the victors in the end. After Matthew Dobrzynski tied the game at 1-1 towards the end of the first half, it was all downhill from there for the Tigers. Grant Gordon was the recipient of two goals on the night from well played assists from John Maher and Daniel Finnegan while fellow Gordon brother Drew Gordon had 5 saves on the night to preserve a 3-1 victory for the Tigers.
In the second match up against Clear Creek-Amana the Tigers rolled to a comfortable 2-0 victory. Under slightly better weather conditions ADM played exceptionally well on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Despite the 2-0 victory Davis Barton’s goal from a Daniel Finnegan assist was the only offensive goal in the game for the Tigers. It was ADM’s stout defense from Matthew Oberreuter and Ian Newman who pressured an opposing defensive player to accidentally knock the ball into his own goal for ADM’s second of the game.
The Tigers now improve to 12-2 on the season and remain perfect in the Raccoon River Conference standings. ADM will look for win number 13 on the season tonight against Newton at Island Park before their stretch of three Raccoon River Conference match ups to end the regular season. The game at Island Park tonight is set to commence at 7:00 pm.
