Now that the 2016 edition of the Drake Relays has come and gone, it’s time for ADM’s qualifier Maggi Bjustrom and the rest of the Lady Tiger track team to set their sights on the upcoming Raccoon River Conference meet.

The Lady Tigers as a team are coming off of a slight disappointment with the lack of qualifiers for the Drake Relays this year as senior Maggi Bjustrom was the only qualifier. Never the less the Lady Tigers still have a great year going as the Drake Relays put a rather deceiving spin on the season. The one ADM qualifier could have easily turned into multiple as many runners were on the very cusp of qualification as ADM girls head track coach Bart Mueller explains.

“We probably had as many close relays as anybody. In the shuttle hurdle they took the top 16, we got 17th, our 4 x 4 was in the 30’s and they take the top 24; Brianna Mueller in the open 800 was 5 tenths of a second off. Just so close,” explained coach Mueller.

Coach Mueller did put the Drake Relays into perspective as he told Raccoon Valley Radio that the Lady Tigers have bigger fish to fry with the Raccoon River Conference and state qualifying meets looming ahead.

“To me Drake about the third most important event of the season. It’s a bonus with everything else but way more important than Drake is conference and state qualifying,” stated coach Mueller.

The Lady Tigers have just one more meet before the conference meet when they head to North Polk high school on Thursday for a 4:30 pm meet.
