IMG_6797The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.

At the meeting, the Board approved payroll change notices for the secondary roads department, auditor’s office and sheriff’s office were approved.

The Supervisors then gave the Sheriff’s Benevolent Association permission to continue to store their vending supplies in the same room they’ve been using despite the dispatch department moving to the north campus.

A memorandum of understanding with the Iowa Department of Corrections was then approved.  Sheriff Chad Leonard says this allows them to put prisoners in the Newton Correctional Facility pending their parole revocation hearing.

A contract with the Decat restorative justice was then approved in the amount of $115,000 annually..  This is year three of a six year contract.  Decat programs allow for unspent child welfare dollars to be reinvested in local communities for locally identified needs of “at risk” children and their families.

Butch Ostrander of DeSoto was then appointed as a Van Meter Township trustee.

Landscaping at both the courthouse and the north campus was then discussed.  Proposals include new trees, grasses and shrubs to help improve the aesthetics of both areas. The County will be setting up a meeting with area architects to discuss plans moving forward.

The Supervisors then heard a generator proposal from ABC Electrical Services President Leroy Clair and voted to approve it in the amount of $11,361.

A discussion on the county issuing driver’s licenses in the future was postponed as Treasurer Mitch Hambleton said he’s currently talking with legislators and other officials about funding and what options they have moving forward.
