The Jefferson Rotary Club is giving away $32,000 in grants this spring.
President John Brunow says 19 recipients have been chosen by the Rotary Club. He points out that they are trying a new approach to award the checks by having a couple of the presentations during their regular weekly meetings.
“We hope to have more time for people to tell us what they’re doing and for more interaction. I just hope it would create more of a relationship than when we run large groups of people to the front and hand them checks. We’re able to learn more about what they’re doing in the community and see if there’s somethings that we can do in the community.”
Most recently, the Sierra Community Theatre received a $250 check for a baby changing table in the restroom and the Grand Junction Community Center received a $580 check for handicap accessible picnic table. Brunow says they started giving checks in April and he anticipates finishing that up by the end of this month.
Brunow adds that the money the Rotary Club is able to provide to non-profit organizations and groups is from their annual auction and dinner event in November.
