Main Street Guthrie Center has been recognized for attracting over $1 million in investments.

Main Street Board members and Director Julie Bailey received the honor at the recent Main Street Iowa annual banquet in Des Moines.

Bailey says the funds have come from a variety of sources. “The Community Development Block Grant that the City was awarded to do the facade renovations, and each of those 16 businesses that had facade renovations had to pay a cash match, as well. We have the streetscapes that were done with the planters and benches, plus there have been buildings sold and that factors into the amount of investment. There have been many funding sources and a lot of businesses in downtown Guthrie Center have contributed to that total.”

Bailey adds that the organization reached the $1 million milestone in two years, which is a faster rate than many other cities in the Main Street Iowa program.
