The Greene County girls finished in fourth place at the 2016 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference golf tournament on Wednesday at the Cedar Pointe course at Boone. Coach Heath Telleen’s squad shot 433 for 18 holes, 18 strokes behind conference champion PCM (Monroe) with 415. Nevada was second at 426 and Gilbert shot 431 for third place. Behind the Rams were Roland-Story (Story City) 435, South Hamilton (Jewell) 462, North Polk (Alleman) 481, and Collins-Maxwell-Baxter 492. Saydel (Des Moines) did not have enough players for a team score.
Greene County had a pair of all-conference players in sophomore Rachael Danielson at 98 and senior Katelyn Hagen with a 99. Danielson was fourth individually and Hagen was sixth. The other two scores counting in the team total for the Rams were 117 from Alison Gallagher and 119 by Kaitlyn McColley.
Coach Telleen said Wednesday was a good day for the girls. “Rachael Danielson and Katelyn Hagen both had outstanding days by finishing in the top six. As a team our goal was to have a big improvement from our disappointing performance last year and we did a great job of that. We hope to keep improving as the season moves on.” The Rams are now 15-6 overall for one of the better seasons in quite some time.
The coach said another meet has been added to the schedule as the Rams will play in Winterset on May 16.
