It’s National Nurses Week, which celebrates all the work that nurses do for their patients and for one nurse, it was extra memorable at Greene County Medical Center.
Public Health nurse Sarah Borgeson became the medical center’s fifth recipient of the DAISY Award on Wednesday. The award is given to a nurse that show extraordinary patient care. This was her third nomination and Borgeson says grateful to be honored.
“It just very humbling really, because I just feel like I’m just doing my job and taking care of my people. We have a lot of great nurses here in our facility so it’s just good to be a part of all of that.”
Borgeson has only been in the public health for two years and was a nurse in the surgery department for 14 years. She points out that it was because of public health that she switched departments and went back to school and got her bachelor’s degree so she could help patients in their own homes.

Public Health Director Becky Wolf nominated Borgeson and says she’s not surprised that Borgeson won the award.
“She does an outstanding job. She always takes care of the clients and brings them to the forefront, whatever they need. She’s just constantly looking for ways to help them (and she) thinks outside of the box and she does a great job. We’re really proud of her.”
