As we’ve reported, several downtown Guthrie Center business owners recently complained to the City Council about employees and commuters taking up the majority of public parking spots, leaving few for customers.
Councilor Randy Nickel says the Council is already brainstorming ways to tackle this problem. “First of all, we’re going to send a letter around to various businesses, asking them to ensure that their employees find someplace other than in front of businesses to park, during the workday. We are also going to see if we can work with them on other solutions. We’re also going to consider enforcing a two-hour parking limit on State Street parking.”
That parking limit would apply only during set business hours, which have yet to be determined. We’ll wrap up our conversation with Nickel talking about several local news items today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
