Greene County High School students participated in different simulation situation involving distracted driving.
Jefferson Telecom and MacDonald Insurance partnered together to bring a simulator from the Arrive Alive Tour from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Safety Ambassador Cameron Dodgson says they expose the teens to texting and drinking while driving simulations. Freshman Matt Saddoris talks about his mock situation of driving after consuming six beers in three hours.
“It was kind of weird. It was kind of hard staying straight on the road and a guy came out of nowhere and I hit him and got ten years in prison.”
Dodgson adds that they try to show kids what can happen if they drive with distractions in a serious, but fun way.
“Once you see someone have a serious collision out there and once they learn about the extent of the infractions and the circumstances that would follow concluding that, it kind of opens their eyes and they kind of realize, ‘Wow this is really serious out there.’”
The event took place at the high school on Monday.
