Cyclists of all ages and experience levels will take part in an annual spring bike ride Saturday.
The 19th annual Hiawatha Classic takes off from Soumas Court in Perry at 9:30am Saturday. Perry Recreation Coordinator Becky Towers says it’s a casual, go at your own pace ride that is changing a bit in 2016.
“This year we’re switching it up a little bit, instead of going towards Jamaica and Jefferson we’re going to head the other way and hit Minburn, Dallas Center and Waukee. The neat thing about this ride is the rider can ride the route that they want or the distance that they want. They don’t have to go all the way to Dallas Center or Waukee, if they want to go on a short little ride to Minburn, that’s as far as they have to go.”
Day of registration will be available at 9am Saturday and all proceeds from the ride go to support local trails and the Raccoon River Valley Trail to High Trestle Trail connector project.
